The Volunteering Program of Athens University of Economics and Business «AUEB Volunteers»

The volunteers are the driving force of the Civil Society. Especially, when it comes to volunteers with abilities and the proper characteristics that any Non-Governmental Organization needs, then we’re talking about gems. Wishing to create a connection between the community of Athens University of Economics and Business, namely the students, the teaching staff and the administrators, which they collectively amount 13.000 persons, and the Non-Governmental Organizations, that connection is based on volunteering. In September of 2017, AUEB started the Voluntary Program of “AUEB Volunteers”.

Concerning the contribution of “AUEB Volunteers”, it is possible for the NGOs to promote their needs at the members of AUEB, through the platform auebvolunteers.gr. At the first two months of its due date, the Program with more than 200 volunteers has supported 20 NGO’s projects such as Boroume, Emphasis, Make-A-Wish, MDA Greece, Solidarity Now, Social Work Foundation (S.W.F) etc.

The participation in the Program is free and the integration process is simple. When there is a need for volunteers, the NGO may comply with the coordination team of the program (e-mail: [email protected], τηλ. 210 82 03 297). Through conversation and understanding the needs, the head coordinator of AUEB Volunteers team will enhance this opportunity at the community of the university during the agreed period. The team members of AUEB Volunteers do not proceed with the selection of the interested volunteers; therefore their contact information shall be notified at the NGO, in order to begin immediately the communication with the interested volunteers. If there is a need for volunteer selection, the NGO can carry it out directly. Also, the coordination of the volunteers concerning the meetings, the training and the monitoring of their work consists a responsibility of the NGO.

There are no limits at the support of the AUEB Volunteers regarding a social issue. The nature of the voluntary work is diverse. Specifically, the voluntary action can use the skills of the volunteers and their knowledge in different fields as the sector of Finance, Administration, Marketing, Accounting, Statistics and Informatics, as well as the administrative actions that they coordinate relating the career consulting, business development, social media management etc. For example, AUEB Volunteers can support the NGOs at the marketing sector, social media management, creation of business plans, strategic planning, website creation, finance analytics, statistics, accounting etc. The duration of the voluntary action may be once a day, an event, some hours or for a specific period.

At the same time, the rise of awareness in the AUEB community concerning social issues, the Volunteering Program coordinates events and actions at the university campus. These actions are jointly discussed and planned.
